Welcome to the Himalayan Class Room
Please take your seats & let's learn about the wonderful world of Himalayans!
The Himalayan is one of the most popular of all Persians.
Is a Himalayan basically the same breed as the Persian?
Well....yes it is.
It took a Persian to make a Himalayan.
They crossed a Persian with a Siamese getting the long coat of the Persian with
the color points of the Siamese.
Disposition wise, the Himalayans are more vocal than the Persians, at least most
of them.
But that is really the only difference I notice other than the fact that all Himalayans
have deep vivid blue eyes.
All Persians and Himalayans are very friendly & very elegant cats.
Both have tremendous coats.
Now let's learn a bit about the "Color Points".
Some times they are called Himalayan and some times they are called Persian
color points. The "Color Points" are the 8 basic color points on the cat.
2 ears, 4 paws, the tail and the mask on the face.
The body is different shades of white and off white, but the color points determine
the color of the Himalayan.
These are the color points of all himalayans:
chocolate, seal, lilac, blue, red, cream tortie, blue-cream, chocolate-tortie, lilac-cream,
seal lynx, blue lynx, red lynx, cream lynx, tortie lynx, blue-cream lynx, chocolate lynx,
lilac lynx, chocolate-tortie lynx and lilac-cream lynx.
Here are some colors of Himalayans we have achieved at Cozy Kitten Cattery:
Chocolate Point
Blue Point
Cream Point
Bi-Color Point
Flame Point
Lilac Point
Chocolate Tortie Point
Seal Tortie Point
Lynx Point
All have brilliant deep blue eyes

I bet you thought Himalayan class was over didn't you?
Not yet! I want to go over some of the little markings that make up certain Himalayans.
For example...the lynx point Himalayans. What does the lynx mean?
Ok, the lynx markings are basically little stripes & ringlets down the Himalayan's
tail and paws. They look like little bracelets.
Then on their forehead you will see the lynx marking which is a classic "M" right
above their eyes.
Take note of the "M" on this lynx points forehead.

Now...the "Tortie Point" Himalayan...why's it called a tortie point?
Now, let's think back to the tortie Persian...it's made up of speckles & splashes of color right?
Well, it's the same thing for the tortie point Himalayans.
On the tortie point's color points you will find speckles and splashes
of creams and reds, making a "Tortie Point Himalayan".
Note this common seal point Himalayan...no speckles, no splashes...just seal points.
Now, take note of this seal tortie point Himalayan below...see the speckles and splashes?
Can't you just feel yourself getting smarter all the time? LOL |
Ok class, you're now fully educated on the differences between the Persian and the Himalayan.
My job is finished and it's time for you to all graduate!
Congratulations! You all made it!
