Acceptable Use Policy

All nemr.net & kvmo.net customers should read this document! Your account WILL BE DISABLED WITHOUT WARNING if you violate any of the terms in the Acceptable Use Policy. Use of the Northeast Missouri Rural Telephone systems and network constitutes understanding and agreement of this policy.

Northeast Missouri Rural Telephone sets forth an Acceptable Use Policy with the intent of protecting our service, our customers, and other users of the Internet from potentially abusive actions taken by Northeast Missouri Rural customers.   We make no restriction on type of equipment or applications that customers may use as long as it is not harmful to the network.  The following policy is non-exclusive; any action about which there is doubt should be referred to Northeast Missouri Rural for evaluation. Northeast Missouri Rural may alter this policy from time to time as need dictates.

Statement of Customer Responsibility:  Each Northeast Missouri Rural Internet account has a password that is the key to gain access to the account. The customer who registered the account is solely responsible for all access and actions taken with regard to the account. It is the account owner's responsibility to safeguard the account password and to ensure that Northeast Missouri Rural Acceptable Use Policies are honored. Northeast Missouri Rural will hold the account owner responsible for any violations of the Policy.  Northeast Missouri Rural enforces these policies with respect to Northeast Missouri Rural customers only. We are not responsible for abusive actions which originate from other sites or networks on the Internet.

Resale of Internet Services:  Customers of Northeast Missouri Rural Internet Service are strictly prohibited from reselling or charging for the use of any Northeast Missouri Rural Internet service, including NEMRtv and Milan Wireless Broadband.

Acceptable Network Use:  Acceptable use of the Northeast Missouri Rural network facilities does NOT include:  Attempting to circumvent user authentication or security of any host, network, or account on Northeast Missouri Rural systems or the Internet at large ("cracking, hacking "). This includes scanning or probing ports without the consent of the owner of the machine being scanned.  Use of Northeast Missouri Rural systems or networks (willfully or negligently) in a manner that encumbers disk space, processors, bandwidth, or other system resources so as to interfere with others' normal use of services on Northeast Missouri Rural Telephone or other systems and networks. This includes, but is not limited to "denial of service" attacks, systems set up as servers or gaming servers.

Acceptable use of Email does NOT include:  Sending unsolicited mass mailings of any nature, including those with a "negative option" for continuation. The negative option is inviting those who do not wish to receive more email to reply to you.  Sending a large number of email messages, or singularly large email messages, to a single address in order to flood someone's mailbox.  Forging email headers to obscure the true originator of the message.  Creating or participation in pyramid schemes or chain letters.  Sending harassing email, either by language, size or frequency. This includes sending email (or real time) messages to a person who has asked explicitly that you do not.  Storing of email for longer than 30 days on Northeast Missouri Internet servers. Email dated 30 days old or older may be deleted by Northeast Missouri Rural Internet.

Acceptable use of Northeast Missouri Rural Dial-up access does NOT include:  Multiple simultaneous logins to a single Northeast Missouri Rural dial-up account are prohibited.

Acceptable use of Northeast Missouri Rural web/FTP space does NOT include:  Distribution of offending materials.  Distribution of restricted software or materials in violation of copyrights or distribution licenses.  Distribution of materials that violates local, state, or federal statutes.

Northeast Missouri Rural reserves the right to restrict or terminate service without refund in the event of an Acceptable use violation. Northeast Missouri Rural also reserves the right to take action on abuse that is not specifically named in this Acceptable use policy at the sole discretion of Northeast Missouri Rural Telephone. Use of the Northeast Missouri Rural systems and network constitutes understanding and agreement of this policy.
