Madeline M. Kratzer, 85, of Beaumont, TX, formerly of Memphis, MO, passed away January 3, 2002, at the home of her son in Beaumont. .

    The daughter of Carl Franklin and Ida Maude (McWilliams) Mathes, she was born on November 3, 1916, at Kilwinning, MO. She graduated from Memphis High School.

    On February 21, 1933, she was married to Oswald Deewitt Kratzer in Memphis, MO. He preceded her in death.

    Madeline had been a cook in the kitchen of the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis for several years and had assisted with the OATS bus in Memphis. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Since 1996, she had been a resident of Beaumont, TX.

    Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; one sister; and one grandson.

    Survivors include seven children: Gene and wife Ruth of Phoenix, AZ, Carolyn Huls and husband Marian of Killeen, TX, Jack and wife Jean of Ft. Madison, IA, Larry of Beaumont, TX, Charles of Donnellson, IA, James of Memphis, MO, and Tillman and wife Wanda of Keokuk, IA; one brother, Tommy C. Mathes of Silvis, IL; twenty-one grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. 

    Funeral services were held on Monday, January 7, 2002, at 1:00 p.m. in the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis, MO, with the Reverend Charles McCracken officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Scotland County, MO. Visitation was held on Sunday, January 6, 2002 from 12 noon until 8 p.m. with the family meeting with friends from 6-8 p.m. in the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis, MO.
