Date of Birth: 1827 Date of Birth: 1899 What makes this person famous? Thomas Clement Fletcher fought for the Union Army during the Civil War, and he was promoted to Brigadier-General by President Lincoln. After the Civil War Brigadier-General Fletcher was elected governor of Missouri. He was very popular and served two terms. How does your town commemorate this famous Missourian? Every October “The Fletcher House” sponsers its annual Ghost Walk. “The Fletcher House” is not a haunted house, but is meant as a fun night in which people dress up in the spirit of the time. There are people dressed in Union and Confederate Army atire, as well as President Abraham Lincoln. “The Fletcher House” is also a museum which is toured by Missouri History students and the public. Other interesting facts: Governor Fletcher was Missouri’s first
native-born governor. (The first governor to actually be born in
Missouri) Governor Fletcher was also personal friends with our sixteenth
president, Abraham Lincoln.
