The three-story courthouse was dedicated November 11, 1924 and houses various county and state offices.  The annual Festival of Trees is held the first Saturday in June and is based on the historical trees planted on the courthouse lawn.  The Vietnam Veteran's War Memorial is nearby.

Today Putnam County has a population of slightly more than 5,000 people.   Agriculture, light manufacturing, health care, services. small business, and education are the primary sources of income.   The county boasts three financial institutions, a weekly newpaper, public library, historical museum, both Catholic and protestant churches, and a county hospital with ambulance district and three physicians.   The Putnam County R-I Schools is aclaimed as an A+ school with one of the finest educational curriculums and sports traditions in north Missouri.
