RAIL
Rural Advocates For Independent Living
Providing Support to People with Disabilites
RAIL's Mission is to assist persons with disabilities to live as independently as they
choose within the communities of their choice.
RAIL supports people in accomplishing this through:
- Peer Support - The RAIL staff helps organize formal support groups throughout our service area.
- Advocacy - RAIL helps those with disablilites learn their rights and how to exercise them for themselves.
- Information and Referral - RAIL provides persons with disablities with information on programs, services and products that can help them live more independently.
- Independent Living Skills Training
- Independent Living Specialists (ILS) help persons with disabilities learn specific skills they need to live as independently as they wish. These could include: Rearranging their living environment, using assistive devices, and learning activities to increase their independence.
- Personal Care Assistance (PCA) Program helps those with physical disabilities find and train their own personal care attendents. RAIL has funding from the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation to assist seven (7) individuals. While all seven openings are normally filled, a waiting list is maintained.
