| There are many things to see and hear that may surprise you. |
| Many very prominent people started their roots here in Schuyler County. The father and uncle of the Howard Hughes famous aviator and businessman were born here. Howard Robard Huges senior made his mark in the tool manufacturing and oil drilling business, Rupert Hughes was a famous novelist play write, and historian . Schuyler county was once home for elephants and many other exotic animals, yes circus, Diamond Billy Hall, helped put Schuyler county on the map. With his world acclaimed knowledge of horses and circus animals, there was always something exciting coming thru the area. The railroad was a very large part of our history, as well as the amazing amount of factories and industries that once made this a large thriving area. Each town of the county has some very interesting items and stories of the past that surprise even us residents. |

| The Downing Depot Located in the city park south in Downing . It is named in the National Register of Historic Sites. Stop in and see some of the wonderfully preserved items.
